What is Sports Physio?
Sports physiotherapy is a specialised area of physiotherapy focused on preventing, diagnosing, and treating sports-related injuries. It involves tailored rehabilitation programs, performance enhancement strategies, and injury prevention techniques to help athletes recover quickly and safely.
At The Grassroots Physio, we work with athletes of all levels to restore movement, manage pain, and get them back to their sport in peak condition.
Why choose The Grassroots Physio?
Our desire is to provide all athletes with personalised, expert care designed to help you recover faster and prevent future injuries. With experience working with elite athletes, we tailor treatments to your unique needs, whether you're a professional or amateur. Our evidence-based approach and focus on long-term results ensure you stay strong, active, and at the top of your game.
How Sports Physio can help you
Physiotherapy can be effective in the treatment of various conditions and injuries. After your assessment, you will receive a treatment plan aimed at restoring your mobility (range of motion), strength (function) and reduce your pain to improve your overall quality of life.
We are fortunate enough to offer Injury Screenings through advanced assessment Technology developed by the team at VALD Performance. Equipped with their ForceDecks and Dynamo+, we can give you detailed insights into your movement and loading patterns and the data collected can assess your weak areas that have room for improvement.
As an athlete, your Physio will keep your sport and position played in mind throughout your rehab journey. Your sport and position is vital information to us as it will tell us about the movements you need to get back to and the intensity required to Return to Sport. There’s no point in providing exercises that don’t align with the movement patterns required for your sport, and we want you to see exactly how every exercise will help you along the way.
There’s a high chance you need to run in your sport, and we are well equipped to provide programs that get you back to running and sprinting without pain or re-injury. Depending on your circumstances, you may start with a walk and run program or be able to begin a light jog before progressively increasing your distance and pace.
Physiotherapists are well educated in the science behind warming up before a game and cooling down afterwards. As part of your rehab journey, we will also develop a warm-up and cool-down program specific to your needs. Everyone should warm-up but they don’t need to be the same. An individualised program is key to minimising injury risk and giving you the confidence to move freely.
After you finish your rehab, you then have the opportunity to continue working with your Physio through our Strength and Conditioning services. The benefit of this is you are able to maintain your strength and fitness with frequent check-ups by your Physio who can then alter your workload as needed. Think of it as having a personal coach that you can give regular fitness check-ins too and can manage any tenderness or injury niggles.

Meet Tom
My passion for anatomy and personal experience with injuries led me to complete a Masters of Physiotherapy at The University of Queensland.
I struggled with injuries as a teenager... It continuously stopped me from playing the sports I loved, like tennis and field hockey, but also running around with my mates. So at 16 years of age, I decided I would become a Physiotherapist and help other athletes avoid my mistakes.
Since graduating, I've worked with State field hockey teams, VFL, and AFLW athletes, and I've been a swimming coach for 10 years. My mission is to help amateur athletes and people from all walks of life recover from injury, manage pain, and stay active. I believe in open, honest care that empowers you to take control of your health.
